Permission multimedia usage

Can I use pictures and sounds from Waarneming.nl?

Observers retain the licensing rights to the photos and sound clips they upload with their observations. This means that observers decide for themselves what can be done with their media. Observers are requested to indicate in their account whether and how third parties may use their media. This information is then displayed with photos and sound clips under the heading 'License'.

How can I find a photo that I am allowed use?

Unfortunately it is not possible to search by license. When you find a photo you would like to use, open the observation. If you hover over the photo with your mouse, you will see a small camera icon at the bottom right. If you click on this, a page will open with all the details of the photo, including the heading 'License'. If it is empty, then there is no permission. Otherwise, follow the instructions. Many observers use the Creative Commons abbreviations. You can find out what these mean here: https://creativecommons.org/licenses/

How can I contact an observer?

Observers who consent to the use of their media often like to hear if their photos or sound clips are published somewhere. You can contact observers on the observation page. At the top right is a blue 'Options' button, which expands a menu when you click on it. At the bottom of the menu, click on 'Email observer'. To contact an observer you must have an account and be logged in. Some users have turned of the permission to receive emails from other users in their privacy settings. These users will not have the option 'Email Observer'. Make sure that you allow other users to contact you in your own privacy settings, before contacting an observer.
